The photos above are of the actual piece of stone from the Nakayama quarry that you will receive. A few of you have been asking for fingerstones. But, I do not have the time to make them myself. I can, however, get the higher-quality rough-cuts of stone sought by discerning sharpeners & polishers. So, here we go. This is a very large rough slab of Nakayama. This would be used for making Jizuya fingerstones. Typically, Uchicuimori would be used for Hazyua - but Uchi can be hard or soft, so people will use harder Uchi for Jizuya sometimes. in my own experience with Kasumi finishing, I use soft Uchi for Hazuya, & harder 'Narutaki' stone for Jizuya. Please note that in this context, Narutaki refers to "Eastern Quarries" & not the actual "Narutaki Quarry". Nakayama is in the Narutaki district & stones from that location are generally highly sought after. This is a lovely slab of Nakayama for fingerstones, the layers in the stone are obvious & easy to access. Splitting this one will be very easy. I have used a piece from this batch & it is lovely - not too hard, soft but not squishy soft. Just right. I suggest gently cleaving off a slice & flattening it, then gluing to tissue. Sealing with lacquer is a nice touch, & then it can be safely lapped to a very thin dimension. This is a lot of stone, with luck, there's probably enough material here to make fingerstones for 10 lifetimes. This is old-stock stone from way long ago; my source knows their stuff & this really is Nakayama stone for sure. Kiita no less. And, like most things I sell, these will be a limited offering. I probably won't have too many pieces like this so if you are looking for it, here it is, don't hesitate. Consider this stone to be untested, unlapped, not sealed. . It is, as-is, as shown in the pix. Use it as a very large & softer type of Tomo Nagura. Or just flake it off to make fingerstones. Whatever's clever.
