Nice old antique hand mirror, likely French. This piece features a large round mirror with a very ornate handle. The front of the mirror has a lovely wide pale blue guilloche enameled circle surrounding a sweet pastoral scene. The scene pictures a musician serenading two lovely ladies. The ladies are both wearing articles of light periwinkle blue that compliments the enamel perfectly. The mirror & the center scene are framed with an ornate metal border. The enamel & center scene are both in excellent condition with no chipping or visible scratches. The metal has some plating loss. The mirror is beveled. The surface does have some dark age spots on it. Please see photos. Several of the brackets that hold the mirror in place are broken as well. This does not affect the integrity of the piece as the mirror is still firmly in place. The handle is beautifully ornate. There is some loss to the plating on the metal. Please see photos. This piece is 9 inches tall including the handle. The mirror surface is 6 inches in diameter. The mirrors would be made of hand-cut & beveled mirror glass set in silver, brass, or silverplate. in France & Germany, hand mirrors with hand-painted porcelain backs became popular.
