Description

19th century singing bird automaton. 6.5"W x 5.5"D x 12"H. This automaton features a gilt brass cage housing a songbird. The songbird has retained a few of her feathers over the past several decades & exhibits peaks of her original red color. On the bottom of the cage you'll find the wind up mechanism that operates the bird as well as the speaker hole from which the song would once have played. When on the bird comes to life flicking it's tail & opening its mouth to sing. The bird is perched on a stand over a green felt base, a small berry spring hangs from the top of the cage. Please note that this automaton functions mechanically however the bird no longer sings. The wind up mechanism is missing it's key but is still able to be wound. One foot is missing from the base, as photographed. JM - 011823 - 105560 - Our items may contain rust, dust, grease, or grit.
