Description

Rare ancient greek vase, Calyx form Attic red-figure Krater vase with a Phlyax (actor) holding a torch & playing a parodied of an ancient Greek tragic drama. A unique museum replica of an ancient greek Krater vase, which is totally handmade with the exact technique of ancient Greeks. The original can be found at the Met Museum of New York. WHY THIS ITEM IS UNIQUE? Because it is suitable for home use since it has been made with the exact technique of Ancient Greek potters as follows: Clay from Attic soil is used to make the pots. This clay is combined with water & is cleaned from frills (e.g. stones, roots, etc). Then we take the clear mud & shape the pottery on the wheel as we desire. The dimensions of the jar's neck & body, as well as the grabs & the base, are ideal. The walls are thin & the pottery is light, with a smooth surface. Following that, we sketch out the emblazonment we want to design using a pencil. We fill the areas of pottery that we wish to be black with diluted clay that has been well cleaned. When the figures are black, the potteries are called black-figured, whereas the backgrounds are black & the figures are in the color of clay, they are called red-figured. in the black-figured potteries, the details of figures are drafted by a needle. On the contrary, in the red-figured potteries, the details are made by a small embossed line, which is black or brown. The white color in the "lekythos", in the "cylikes", in faces, in arms, & in legs, is the "calin" clay from Mylos. The potteries are drawn raw. When the drawing is completed we place the potteries in the furnace, where the two colors, the black & the color of the clay, are differentiated. The agleam black is caused by the reductive procedure of "optisi". The diluted clay has the color of clay, & with the tiring converts into agleam black, which is indelible in age. The colors that we observe in white lekythos like green, purple, light blue, & red are oxides. The platinum & the gold are 24k & it comes in second baking at 800o C.
