Description

It is an antique pure silk kimono. It has a formal one crest kamon (Hitotsu-mon). (refer to the following) The blue-gray fabric has a fine embossed ground pattern & the lower part is embroidered. If you look closely, the colors are gradation & the carriage is drawn in the middle. When you look up, the surrounding colors are as beautiful as the colors of the universe. The lining is a rare red color. Crepe fabric (Chirimen) is used for the hem. I think this kimono was very expensive at the time. Condition is very good. Most of our Kimonos & Haoris are hand sewn & custom made. We measure from sleeve edge - to-edge (horizontally), & from the top (where the collar is attached) to the bottom (vertically). Horizontal from cuff to cuff 122cm / 48" Width (from base of sleeve) 57cm / 22.44" Vertical from collar to hem 150cm / 59" Sleeve Length 54cm / 21.26" A family crest is a motif that symbolizes a house that has existed for over 1000 years. There are thousands of them, but they are more freely used than Western emblems, & in some ways they have the symbol & can change in their lifetime, & sometimes have multiple family crests. Symbols range from plants, animals, natural phenomena, & geometric patterns etc. Kimono & Haori with Kamon are often high quality. There are one Kamon, three Kamon, & five Kamono, & five Kamon are the most formal. Each motif may show the roots of each house, & it hides deep content such as beliefs, philosophical implications, & magical roles that the head of the house has decided.
