Description
This lithostone print of Pele won "Award of Excellence" at the 88th annual Honlulu printmakers show in 2016. Pele is the Hawaiian volcano goddess, she is depicted as ferocious old hag or a beautiful young maiden. I created this Pele in Hawaii as the lava flow was approaching the town of Pahoa. My idea was to remind her that she could be peaceful & create new land without destroying villages. The volcano did stop short of destroying the town. I show Pele with Hualalai mountain in background a sea turtle, honu, in the foreground & flanked by Hawaiian breadfruit trees, lehua blossoms & Hawaiian songbirds.
