Description
Sound of the sea shore though the pines. Painted with ink & pigments on silk. Signed Shisui & sealed. Matsumoto shisui(1887-1972)was a Japanese artist active during Taisho(1912-1926) to Showa era (1926-1989) in Japan. He first learned western painting from Kuroda Seiki(1866-1924), but turned to depicting Japanese paintings. He won a prize for the first time at Bunten art exhibition held in 1913. He later became a pupil of a prominent artist Kawai Gyokudō (1873-1957). Shisui also won a spcial prize at Teiten imperial art exhibition in 1925. Some insignificant light marks & foxing are present on the painting & mounting, otherwise the piece is in very good condition. It is accompanied by an original paulownia wood storage box with the artist's signature.
