About the pendant: in the city of Kazan, on July 8th, 1579 A.D., this Theotokos icon was found. It became known as the patroness of the Kazan region after it was discovered beneath the city. Matrona, a little child who had the privilege of seeing the Theotokos in person, received the location of the symbol directly from the Theotokos herself. The Monastery of the Theotokos, which was constructed on the exact site where the image was discovered, has housed the most revered icon in the Russian Orthodox Church for centuries. Up until the icon was taken from the Kazan cathedral in 1904, this representation of the Theotokos was regarded as Russia's guardian.The Mother of God was previously invoked by the Russian government to defend their nation against the Polish invasion in 1612, the Swedish invasion in 1709, & the Napoleonic invasion in 1812.
