This is a fabulous little set of 4 little dessert or salad plates from the 1920s-40s. Marked Made in Japan on the back, they each depict a serene Japanese scene of a colorful pagoda with swans in a lake in the foreground & a pink floral foliage background. These are likely Noritake though there is no specific mark. Please note that these are very old, & they are likely not lead free. I would not recommend using these to actually eat off of, & I would personally display these on the wall or on shelves. The plates each measure about 7 3/8" diameter. in fair to good vintage used preowned condition, these are free from any chips or damages or repairs. There are some signs of previous use like slight paint rubbings & missing paint here & there from gentle use, etc, but nothing that would detract from their loveliness. HOWEVER: These DO show some signs of age & wear as would be expected. There is some paint rubbed off from some of the pagoda & the edges. If you prefer something that looks brand new, I would skip these. I am selling these as found & as is based on the slight wear. VIEW PHOTOS & ask questions prior to purchase. The price is for ALL 4 plates. MORE ON NORITAKE: Lustreware or Lusterware is a type of pottery or porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence. It is produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish, which is given a second firing at a lower temperature in a "muffle kiln", or a reduction kiln, excluding oxygen. The Noritake of today grew out of a trading company that was originally established by the Morimura Brothers in New York in 1876. This trading company imported chinaware, curios, paper lanterns & other gift items. in 1904, the forerunner of the Noritake Company was established in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan.
