It was equipped with several cranes & derricks that allowed it to load & unload cargo quickly & efficiently. It also had accommodations for up to 1,600 troops, making it a vital asset for transporting personnel to & from the front lines. in addition to its role as a transport ship, the Elizabeth C. Stanton also served as a hospital ship. It was equipped with a fully-stocked medical facility that was capable of treating up to 400 patients at a time.
