Hello & welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk ~ An extraordinary find ~ this textile is either French or possibly Italian. It's massive, measuring nearly 13 feet long!~ ( 12.8 feet long) The large scale design is wonderfully elegant & dramatic. It's an 18th century textile from the mid to late 1700's ~ this textile is outrageous! I've never before found a silk damask from this period in such fine condition. This textile would have been a hanging, most likely from a bed. The bottom is notched, this is not a tear, it was created perhaps to go around the bed poles ? ~ unsure. The colors are gold & raspberry & it's silk! This textile is backed. The damask is the most wonderful design. Ideal for any collection MEASUREMENTS : This textile measures approximately : 154 inches long ( SO LONG! ) by about 20 inches wide ~ CONDITION: This textile is in as found condition. It's in wonderful condition for its age I have never, in all of my years of sourcing, found a damask panel in sick in better condition ~ There is wear along the edges , the backing has some small holes , The top 3 inches has heavy wear & damage due to hanging. The silk is in wonderful condition for its age & use, not without signs of time & use, but wonderful condition. Please see photographs to view condition exactly.
