Description
This very old steel printing plate was used to print music sheets. This plate is the Cosmos March by M.A. Althouse, & it appears that the plate engraver or the publisher might have been J. S. Althouse Company Limited of Reading, Pennsylvania. The plate is comprised of two panels that would produce two pages of sheet music, & each half of the sheet shows different parts of the march. These sheets would have been for the 2nd Violin & the Viola. I'm pretty sure that this steel sheet was made in the late 1920s or possibly 1930s, & it shows some wear along the perimeter. The sheet is flat & surprisingly heavy, weighing about 1 1/2 pounds. It measures about 12 15/16" by 9 7/16" & is in good legible & clear condition. Interesting, very rare, & unusual find.
