This is a rare limited edition hand colored & hand signed William Marlow etching. It is numbered "XLII / L" "Collectors Edition" & comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Born in California - before his family relocated to Colorado - William Marlow began his art career as a printmaker. He was introduced to many different print mediums in High School, working with dry point, silkscreen, monotype, monoprint, block printing & Intaglio (i.e. etching!) Zinc plates became the artists choice & his work soon gained national recognition when he was presented with the National Scholastics Award in art. After further study at the Kansas City Art Institute, Marlow began exhibiting & selling his work all across the U.S.A. - & which he continues to do so today. His earlier work is particularly rare because Marlow lost most all of his plates, proofs & inventory in a fire in the early 1990's. The plate for this piece - which he titled "View II" - was also lost in said fire. The etching frame measures 30" (width) x 36 1/4" (height) x 1 1/4" (depth). The actual etching measures 19 5/8" width x 25 3/4" height. The whole thing weighs 13lb 4oz. Great as a gift or for the collector of rare & American etchings / lithographs; & 1980s impressionist / abstract art. The actual etching is in great condition yet the (protective) frame shows some signs of age & wear as all great vintage items do. The frame is marked in places. Examine all the pictures closely.
