Description
This 9.25" tall antique American Brilliant Period ABP cut crystal compote features an air trap stem & has a low shallow bowl with deeply cut decoration that includes 3 large 12-point pinwheel hobstars. The hobstars are separated by arching mitre cuts bearing cane & fine diamond cuts motifs with 8-point cut hobstars at the center. There are large wide fans where the arching mitre cuts intersect. The rim is finished with a series of 36 concave thumbprint cuts. The inside of the rim measures 4.5" from edge to edge & the outside is approximately 5.75" across. The center of the bowl is slightly domed & is approximately 1.5" at its deepest point. The thick paneled stem bears sharp zipper cuts & tapers from top to bottom. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the stem's multi-paneled form showcases the air trap teardrop to great effect. It should also be noted that the area around the air trap glows green when viewed under UV light. The large 4.5" pedestal foot is finished on the underside with 24 deeply cut rays. The piece is quite heavy & weighs 3lbs 1oz. It has a clear bright ring when struck. As an antique, the compote shows signs of age including light scratching in the bowl & on the underside of the foot that is mentioned for accuracy. This ABP tall cut glass compote would be a great addition to a collection of antique ABP glass or works equally well as a stand alone decorative accent.
