Young orphan Heidi (Jennifer Edwards) is left to stay with her estranged grandfather (Sir Michael Redgrave), who lives like a hermit in the Swiss Alps. While he is cold & distant at first, he grows to love & cherish her, until he's faced with choosing her well-being over his own heart. Who can forget the heartwarming story of Heidi? Children loved it & so did their parents. This version has Maximilian Shell as Heidi's uncle (father of the disabled girl Clara). The stellar cast also includes Jean Simmons as Clara's governess who is in love with Heidi's uncle. Their romance is sweetly portrayed. Delbert Mann's direction is inspired & it benefits from a wonderful score by John Williams. The Swiss scenery is ravishing, the whole family will love it, especially fans of the New York Jets & Oakland Raiders who watched the "Heidi" premiere supersede the last 2 minutes of a nail-biting playoff game where the Raiders staged a comeback scoring (2) touchdowns in the final minute. Unfortunately, the only thing football fans saw was "The Little Swiss Orphan from the Alps". This game changed the way live sports are broadcast today & will forever be known as the "Heidi Game".
