Description

Crafted in the 1870s, these ornate mourning earrings are rendered from yellow rolled gold & black enamel. The enameling technique is called Taille d'Épargne (from French: taille = "engraving"; épargner = "to save"). The scrolling enamel resembles vines & flowers. These earrings were converted from cufflinks & are lovely large stud earrings to add to your collection! Dive into the exquisite world of Victorian jewelry & uncover the captivating stories behind these timeless treasures on our blog here: https://thegemmary.com/2022/02/jewelry-of-the-victorian-grand-period/ The earrings are in very good to good antique condition with minor signs of wear. The earrings were converted; you can see signs of this work on the back. The enamel is very nice, with a few tiny areas of wear on one earring. The earrings are not stamped or marked, & the butterfly backs are gold-filled. There are minor signs of wear on the rolled gold, mainly along the seams along the sides. The earrings measure 3/4" tall & 5/8" wide & weigh 5.88 grams. The box is for display only. I try to show an accurate picture of the item in my photographs & in the written description. Please note the size given in the description, as images can make the item appear more prominent than its actual size. I combine shipping on multiple orders!
