1961 EGYPTIAN Copper with Silver Inlay CAIRO WARE Tray. This tray measures 24" in diameter & weighs over 12 pounds. I was fortunate to have a letter taped to the back when I found this so I have the history noted This was purchased in 1961 in Cairo. The letter reads: Dear Mr. Webber, Thank you very much for your kind letter dated Sep. 6 & I am very sorry for late in answering it. You told me in your letter that you have received the copper silver inlaid tray you purchased from me in good condition & you asked me about the figures & the flowers on it for you were in a hurry when you were in my shop. I have the honour to tell you that the tray is repres enting in the middle of it King Tut Ankh Amun sitting in his throne & his wife Queen Nefertiti touching his shoulder kindly, the tray is serounded in the edge withe the lotus flower the ancient flower of Egypt & it was the favor of Queen Nefertiti. Waiting to see you in your next visit to Cairo, We will remain always, Yours truly, Morsi El-Gabry (All spelling errors are in the original letter) There is also an envelope with writing on it behind the letter. I can't read all of the writing but it does say the scene is from King Tut Ankh Amun's burial chamber discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. It is in excellent vintage condition.
