Description

This antique quadruple silver plate sugar bowl & spoon holder, very Victorian, was made late 1800s or very early 1900s by New Amsterdam Silver Co. & is marked "1008" on the bottom. The classic urn design, with fanciful bird finial & rabbits on the ornate handles, is encircled with twelve brackets designed to hold spoons. A feathery etched design decorates both sides of the bowl. These ornate serving pieces would most often grace afternoon tea serviceoften referred to as "spooners" & passed down as cherished family heirlooms, these items in good condition are hard to find now. This slightly shabby spooner is larger than some, measuring about 8.5" across (including handles) & about 9.25" tall (including lid & finial). The original 10 spoons are missing from this set. I've gone over the piece lightly as I like the old look but you can see the imperfect patina & I'm sure some vigorous polishing could make it shinier. There are a few dings (see photos) but this old-fashioned piece is still a charming addition to any tea service. Please look carefully at the photos & convo me with any questions. I pack carefully & ship same or next business day from Arkansas with free tracking. Satisfaction guaranteed or money cheerfully refunded.
