Tag Says: Tag is Unreadable, looks like 100% cotton box tag This shirt is an incredible vintage find that commemorates David Bowie's first & only appearance on the Broadway stage. This shirt celebrates a 1980-1981 run of Bernard Pomerance's play The Elephant Man, which was based on the true story of Victorian sideshow performer Joseph Merrick, better known as the Elephant Man. Bowie took on the role shortly after he released his 14th studio album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), which left the singer with little time to promote his new release. Regardless the album still gained commercial success & Bowie was highly praised for his unique portrayal of Merrick, which he did devoid of any theatrical make-up. This was an innovative choice, as Merrick was often characterized by his severe physical deformities. Bowie chose to exemplify the character's unconventional condition by contorting his body & voice rather than relying on heavy stage makeup. Comments: Fits like a modern unisex adult small, small spots & holes in the front of the shirt, see pics VAULT-116613 80S David Bowie The Elephant Man Broadway Play Theater T-Shirt Small
