Description

Anne-Marie Ødegaard (1931-2007) was a Norwegian designer & ceramist, particularly well known for her mid century modernist jewelery & miniatures in hand-painted porcelain. Ødegaard graduated from the State School of Applied Arts & Crafts in 1954 & started working as a designer for Porsgrund Porselænsfabrik that same year. in 1975 she began to make jewelry in porcelain which was clearly a defining moment in Norwegian mid century design. Coveted & collected, her work speaks to both the concept of wearable art a d to the abstract expressionist movement. She was a true artist & a master of her craft, recognized for her porcelain miniatures, jewelry designs & an infamous tea set with several prestigious European/Scandinavian design awards. It is no wonder her work fetches such high prices. They are little pieces of her original art & they are stunning. This is a exceptional example of Ødegaard's design aesthetic. It is a pin/pendant crafted of porcelain & sterling silver. The design is rich, with an earthy umber base accented by an organic pattern of gold & subtle speckles of black. The focal point is the stark white center with an almost floral shape in black. This exquisite design was artisan crafted with glaze on bed of fine porcelain. This masterpiece has been framed by a simple circlet of sterling silver. The look is at once, warm, abstract & arresting. It has the elusive quality of luxury. The Specifics: Measurement: 1.80" Condition: Excellent Vintage-please review photos Composition: Porcelain & Sterling Silver Hallmarks/Makers Marks: Porsgrund Porselænsfabrik (PP) Design: AMØ-Anne-Marie Ødegaard 925S Sterling Thoughts: The bail is quite significant, worn as a pendant, it would look remarkable suspended on a silver neck wire or worn on a beaded necklace ( onyx, Mother of Pearl, Red Jasper). If worn as a pin, it would look outstanding on a leather vest, a black pashmina, an Irish wool sweater or at the shoulder of a Dior sheath dress. It's just that versatile.
