Byzantine paintings based on the Byzantine technique,painted with natural earth colours on handmade camvas streched on plain or hand carved natural wood,enamelled with polished cold leaves. About this Icon: in the year 1314 AD, in the city of Rostov, Saint Sergei was born to devout parents. He had a deep love for prayer & was a fervent churchgoer from an early age. He made the decision to spend several years living alone in Moscow's dense forests in accordance with the principles of Christian monasticism. He finally moved in with other monks because of the challenging living conditions. He received his priestly ordination, rising to the position of abbot of the Holy Trinity Monastery. He continued to do crafts while serving as abbot, & his cassocks were worn out & scruffy.He is referred to as the "patriarch of the Russian monastic resurgence" because of his involvement in the development & organization of monasticism in Russia during that time. The most significant diplomatic mission he undertook was to draft an everlasting peace between Moscow & Ryazan in 1385. He was also dispatched on other diplomatic missions. He passed away peacefully in 1392, & his memory is celebrated on December 25.
