It is Elgin's Grade 86. The "Convertible" movement was a design that provided the ability to convert the watch to either a Hunter (closed case) style movement with the winding stem in the 3 o'clock position or to an Open Face style case where the winding stem is in the 12 o'clock position. Movement: The 16 size, 15 jewel, lever setting movement runs with strong motion & keeps good time. Because the movement is set up in the open face configuration, the lever for setting the time is located in the 4:30 position. The serial number on the movement is 1395831 dating it to 1884. Case: No Case The Grade 86 is in high demand among collectors. in 1884 this was RR Approved. It was PRIOR to The 1893 Standards Dial: The dial is a single sunk porcelain type with Roman Numerals. It has excellent eye appeal. A micro chip at 6, hidden when cased, & a mini hairline when looked at under magnification.
