Frederick Robbins Childs (1908-1978) - Untitled Tableau with Primitive Statues, Signed (1951, Oil on Canvas). Tableau with three primitive figures with a yellow painted band. Signed & dated in the lower right corner. in good condition with wear consistent with age. Please refer to pictures as this is a vintage painting. Size: 20"H x 30"W Frederick Robbins Childs was a Manhattan based post-Impressionist painter. A graduate of Harvard University, he began his career as a reporter for The New York World. However, he left journalism to pursue his interests & studies in art. He met his wife, Mary Alexandra Hitchcock, while they were both studying painting at the studio of André Lhote, the French Cubist painter.Lhote's influence can be seen in many of Childs' portrait & landscape paintings. Although he is described as a Post-Impressionist, Childs often incorporated the angular aesthetics of Cubism into his bright pallets. During World War II, Mr. Childs served with the American Field Service in North Africa & with the United States infantry in Europe.
