The icon is hand made,in the old traditional manner of Byzantine art.It has been painted with egg,tempera,and gold on canvas & old wood.It is a work of modern art of superior quality. About this Icon: A rich shepherding family welcomed Saint Spyridon into the world in the town of Assia, Cyprus, in the year 270 AD. Even though he acquired a good education, he decided to be a shepherd. He had a daughter after being married to a devout woman. But shortly after, his wife passed away. Spyridon increased his devotion to the Divine Word's teachings in order to deal with this tragedy. He was ordained to the priesthood after tremendous pressure. Spyridon developed his virtue so much as a priest that God frequently employed him to perform miracles. As one of the most outstanding defenders of the Orthodox Faith, he also participated in the First Ecumenical Council, where he challenged the Arians & demonstrated his expertise.He eventually passed away about 350 AD. His incorrupt relics are stored in the Corfu church that bears his name. The 12th of December is a day set aside to honor his memory.
