Dimensions: -Height: 7.8" / 20 cm -Width: 11.8" / 28 cm -Circumference: 34.4"/ 87.5 cm This piece was created in the community of San Bartolo Coyotepec, a small Zapotec town in the State of Oaxaca, where black pottery becomes a fundamental part of the cultural & artistic identity of the community, shaping different pieces with peculiar cuts that make them stand out for their color & unique properties extracted in the hill of the town known as "La Mina" which provides a clay soil with residues that must be removed to remove all impurities from the earth, The clay is left to soak & sediment for weeks to obtain the texture necessary to form beautiful pieces that will be sunbathed once the molding is finished for a couple of weeks more, & then go through a series of techniques that combine polishing, burnishing & fretwork. Finally the piece goes to a wood oven underground for a day. It is during this process that the oven is sealed & gives way to the technique known as "oxygen reduction" which causes a black smoke generated by the firing of the wood. & it is at this point where the pieces acquire their distinctive color. This is a unique way of acquiring this black coloration, & it is only done in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca. #Notes Dimensions are approximate as this is a handmade product.
