Antique 1935 Photo, Catchers Glove & Catchers Mask. Picture Is Joe Dimaggio With Bud Bates of the Phillies( A Great Grandfather Of A Friend of Mine Charlie). These Were Found in A Trunk in An Attic of his Great Grandfathers house.. The Glove Is A Stamped Dimaggio Glove, Do Not Know The Origin Of The Mask Other Than A 1935 Model. After DiMaggio passed a physical examination in November, the Yankees purchased his contract for $50,000 & five players. He remained with the Seals for the 1935 season & batted .398 with 154 runs batted in (RBIs) & 34 home runs. California native Bud Bates spent twenty-three active seasons in professional baseball from 1931 to 1961. Bates also spent three years (1943-1945) in the United States Navy during World War II. He spent until 1939 in the minors before getting his first & only chance in the major leagues. He made his debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on September 16, 1939 & appeared in 15 games for the Phils, hitting .259 in 58 at-bats. He played his final major league game on October 1.
