A nice traditional Mino Momoyama Ware pottery bowl produced by kiln master Hayashi Kagemasa (1891-1988). Hayashi Kagemasa was the kiln master of Otozuka-gama following the traditional pottery methods of Japan that he learned under his apprenticeship with master Maeyama Hiskichi in Kamakura City. He also learned some of his craft from Kitaōji Rosanjin. in 1935 Hayashi Kagemasa built Ototsuka kiln in Toki & continued devoting himself to recreate Mino-Momoyama ware. This large bowl has a carved decoration of a beet in the center with carved circular lines around the center design along with a carved flower design on the side. The bowl is glazed in a clear glaze that has slight gold highlights allowing the natural clay color to show through the glaze. The underside is signed by the potter. Included is the original printed information sheet detailing the history of Mino-ware & the career & training of kiln master Hayashi Kagemasa. This Japanese pottery bowl comes in the original 12" by 12" by 3.5" wooded box with green tie ribbon. No lid. The condition is nice & original on this piece which is fresh from the estate of a world traveler. A great piece for your Japanese studio pottery collection.
