Rigid heddle weaving is a simple type of weaving known from ancient times & still practiced today (in Europe in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, & the Baltic States). It is a warp-faced weaving done with the use of a rigid heddle loom, backstrap, or box-looms. By default, it produces a tabby weave. Band weaving is commonly used for narrow work such as trims, straps, & belts. Today woven bands are used in historical reenactment (Viking age), SCA, LARP, folk costumes, & all kinds of pagan, fantasy, or Viking societies.
