Description

Maxfield Parrish created this whimsical ad for Jello in 1923. It shows, anachronistically, a happy Colonial-era family making jello & is captioned "Polly Put the Kettle On & We'll All Make Jell-O." Love the cats that flank the family! The colors in this lithograph are vivid with yellows & blues dominating. It is in a newer wood frame, with glass, & has a white matte. Printed on the bottom left under the image is "(Copyright symbol) 1923 by the Genesee Pure Food Company." The print is approx. 12.5" X 9" with border. The frame measures about 17" X 13". Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was one of America's best known artists & illustrators. His work encompassed advertising, fine art, murals, posters & calendars, to name a few. Norman Rockwell called him "my idol." Known for his glazing technique that produced vibrant colors, especially in shades of blue, the color"Parrish blue" is named in his honor.
