Geta (下駄) are traditional Japanese footwear resembling flip-flops. A kind of sandal, geta have an elevated wooden base held on the foot with a fabric thong, which keeps the foot raised above the ground. This repetitive pattern has the Japanese name Kanoko because it resembles the spots found on the back of a fawn. It is the result of a particular dyeing technique which consists in knotting the fabric in a specific way before soaking it.
