Description
Presented is a great antique silver sugar castor or muffineer. The sugar castor is done in classic form with a latticework design alternating with pretty hand-cut pierced designs at the top. The body of the castor is monogrammed with the initials W R A in block letters. We believe this piece was made in the 1740s-1770s, very likely in America, & the monogram was done significantly after it was made. The sugar castor is unmarked. We have tested it with nitric acid & guarantee it to be at least coin silver, possibly higher. The castor is in great overall condition. There is a small dent just under the widest point of the body. There is also a small split in the inner lip of the lid, very minor. The piercing & finial are in great shape. There are no other dents, no other splits, no breaks, no monogram removals & no repairs. The castor is 5 1/2 inches tall. The weight is 116.1 grams or 4.095 ounces. 18Th Cent American Silver Sugar Castor Muffineer Shaker
