Dimensions:1,2 x 2,3 cm Weight of pendant: 1.00 gramms About the pendant: An identical replica of the Theotokos Portaitissa icon from Mount Athos' Holy Monastery of Iviron. Tradition has it that Luke the Evangelist personally painted it. An honorable widow who owned the symbol tossed it into the water to protect it from iconoclasts. The image miraculously stands up & float to the Holy Mountain. The elders of the Iviron monastery once noticed a Theotokos image in the water. But if anything, it seemed to drift farther away as they got closer. The image was drawn into Saint Gabriel's arms as soon as he entered the sea at the Mother of God's order.The image was initially put in the monastery's church, but it would periodically vanish & reappear above the gate. This repeatedly took place. Elder Gabriel was eventually visited by the Theotokos once more, who instructed him to quit troubling the icon because it had not come to the monastery to be guarded by the monks but rather to defend & protect them. Since then, the image has remained in its original location in the chapel to the left of Iviron's main entrance. It was given the name "Portaitissa," which is derived from the Greek word "porta," which means door, as a result.
