Description
This is a 6-inch by 8-inch inch watercolor painting. I used ink for the preliminary lines, & gouache for the highlights. All materials used are professional & archival. It is framed in a gold frame & double matted with a dark moss green & a Dusty dark Plum mat. Deep in the woods, a cicada nymph, infiltrated by cordyceps fungus, crawls along a lichen & moss covered branch, never to molt. A lichen huntsman watches as it awaits for its chance to catch dinner. The environment around them continues to grow. in my work I try to emphasize the beauty, importance & value of all living things. in this painting I do that through the the depiction of biodiversity & layers of different life forms. This brings the viewer a sense of wonder as they explore & make new discoveries in every square inch of the painting. They begin to look deeper into the painting as the thought, "what else is there?" Rings in their mind. I hope this opens more minds to the purpose of living things that typically have a negative opinion or feeling attached to them.
