A very beautiful old vintage Japanese fine art large hand painted ceramic earthenware pottery bowl / charger, depicting a group of 6 (or 7 if you count the 1 headless?) Zen Buddhist monks or Shinto immortals (?) within the inside of the bowl, possibly including Bodhidharma/Daruma (?), painted in a very successful confidence / gestural freedom reminiscent of Zen painted scrolls with calligraphy... also with a lovely colorful abstract cloud motif border near the inner & outer edge, & flowers on 2 sides flanked by a horizontal trident shaped design... Calligraphy signature or artist's hallmarks on underfoot. - I did a good bit of internet research to try to learn if this is a certain repeated style or if this is more the work of a singular artist. I have only located 1 similar work online & that dealer doesn't appear to know much either, except that the one he attained was purchased in Japan. If anyone is aware, please share. It appears & certainly feels like it has at least some substantial age & one other dealer of Asian ceramics I asked said maybe 50 years old. Also, if anyone knows the story this might be depicting, please share.
