Saint Sabbas (Saint Savvas) Greek Orthodox icon reproduction on a wooden plaque. Sizes: Small - 8.5cm x 11cm / 3.34 inches x 4.33 inches Medium - 10cm x 13.5cm / 3.93inches x 5.31inches Large - 12cm x 16.5cm / 4.72inches x 6.49inches Extra Large - 14cm x 19cm / 5.51inches x 7.48inches Saint Sabbas was born in a small Cappadocian village in 439 A.D. He lived in a monastery with Euthymius the Great, the teacher of the desert, from a very young age. As he rose in the ranks of the monastery, he became the spiritual father of many other monks & the archimandrite for all the desert monasteries of Palestine in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Throughout his life he lived in caves, coming to the monastery on Sundays for Liturgy. He lived to the age of 94 & slept in Christ in 533. The monastery he lived in still exists to this day, Holy Lavra of Saint Sabbas, which was founded in 483 by Saint Sabbas. Saint Sabbas' feast day is celebrated on December 5.
