George Washington with Mother Plate made by Woods & Sons Blue & White Transferware plate Measures 8 inches in diameter Photos are part of the item's description The Mary Washington House, at 1200 Charles Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is the house in which George Washington's mother, Mary Ball Washington, resided towards the end of her life. It was close to her daughter Betty Washington Lewis's home Kenmore & that of her younger son Charles (which later became the Rising Sun Tavern when he moved to what is now Charles Town, West Virginia. This wonderful plate features a transferware image of George Washington kneeling before his mother & the words "First in War, First in Peace, First in the Hearts of his Countrymen." It was made by Wood & Sons in England as a souvenir for the Mary Washington House. It is an endearing image of motherly devotion & patriotism. This plate is in wonderful vintage condition; it was manufactured by Woods & Sons in England under the authorization of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities which maintains the Mary Washington House as a historical shrine.
