The Welsh Corgi is a small type of herding dog that originated in Wales. Sometimes just known as a Corgi, two separate breeds are recognized: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi & the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. There are physical differences between the two. According to the breed standards, overall, the Cardigan is larger, both in weight & in height. Each item begins as a piece of sheet metal, copper, bronze, brass or nickel. After a pattern is transferred to the metal, the piece is etched in a salt-water solution. Each piece is hand cut, sanded, & polished. A patina may be applied or it may be hand painted with dye oxide.
