Haring's work emerged from the New York City graffiti subculture of the 1980s, & by the end of the decade his art had been displayed in over 100 gallery exhibitions. Haring's simple yet distinctive style made his work easily recognizable & it appeared on magazine covers, album sleeves, murals, & even a skirt worn by Madonna in her music video for the song "Borderline". Haring died of AIDS related complication in the winter of 1990, & he spent much of his later years advocating for those affected by the viral disease. This shirt showcases his image three eyed smiling face, & it is one of the many remaining examples of Haring's lasting effect on the art world.
