They prefer full sun & grow from 12-24" tall. The seeds are naturally in a tiny little casing shaped like a badminton birdie/shuttle. The seeds need light to germinate, so it might be best to start them in potting mix, because they should be covered only so lightly so they can still get some light. Also, as with all seeds, it is important to keep them moist until they germinate. Black Knight Scabiosa are only moderately lightfast, but washfast & are popular with natural dyeing & bundle dyeing. Frequent harvesting will encourage more blooms & the flowers can be used fresh or dried. Black Knight Scabiosa is sensitive to pH changes, so a more acidic dye bath will give more pink & purple colors & an alkaline dye bath will give more blue/gray colors.
