I've Seen Fire & I've Seen Rain ~ original, contemporary abstract landscape painting by New Mexico artist Dawn Chandler Indeed, I have seen fire & rain has have we all who live in & love this extraordinary Land of Enchantment. Believe it or not I began this painting some years ago. It was a straight-forward landscape painting. The view is over in Colfax County, down near the hamlet of Miami, New Mexico. A glorious cloud-filled sunset. The painting sat unfinished for a long while. The truth is it just wasn't very interesting to me; it was begging for something more, yet I didn't know what to do with it. Then this summer I was gifted a wonderful opportunity to have my own private artist residency in a friend's studio in El Rito, New Mexico. I brought with me stacks of unfinished paintings, including this one. I was determined to finish them, & be bold in my efforts. What raised this painting from boring to exciting was adding elements of collage. Suddenly the painting leap from the wall with interest & intrigue. I don't know what made me decide to add that luscious passionate magenta, but it was the right decision for sure. That's when the title came to me. & this year of epic fires across New Mexico, followed by an extended monsoon season, the title is especially apt. I am thrilled that this painting was featured in an exhibit called Force of Nature held in Missouri earlier this autumn. I've Seen Fire & I've Seen Rain is perfect for anyone who loves New Mexico as well as contemporary art & imaginative abstract landscapes. I've Seen Fire & I've Seen Rain was created with mixed media on watercolor paper, which I then mounted on a sturdy panel. The panel is 1.5" deep, with the painting continuing around the sides of the panel. No further framing is necessary. This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting by Dawn Chandler.
