Description

Stalactite from the Department of Lima, Peru, Small Cabinet Size 2.3in/32g Stalactites, also known as Cave Popcorn, is a rocky deposit which stands as a monument to the transformative power of water, & to the fact that caves are constantly changing. When liquid passes through a limestone/dolostone bedrock layer, it absorbs calcite from the rock. If the water proceeds downward & enters an open, air-filled cave, something interesting happens: The water loses some of it's CO2 gas, which gets released into the air. With it's CO2 holdings depleted, the liquid unleashes some of the calcite it had absorbed previously. The excess calcite may accumulate on cave floors, walls & ceilings. Sometimes, as more & more calcite (or another mineral) is deposited by water at a specific location, the piled-up building material slowly develops into a speleothem. Any natural, decorative cave structure - be it a pointy stalagmite, a dangling stalactite, or something else altogether - that forms within a pre-existing cave is called a speleothem. Metaphysical Properties: Stalactites are associated with secret expansion of the higher self, as well as hidden inner growth. They have a special resonance with the third eye, & can powerfully stimulate any chakra. Lighting Information: Our Crystals & Minerals are photographed in a lightbox with artificial lighting, as well as outdoors in natural light in the shade & in the sunlight. Our videos are filmed outdoors as well to show the most accurate colors. The lightbox shows what the Specimens will look like displayed indoors in display/museum conditions (with artificial lighting). stalactite From The Department Of Lima, Peru, Small Cabinet Size 2.9In/125G
