Description

Presented is a fabulous Mexican sterling silver shaker or caster. This piece was made by Tane & dates to around the 1950s-1960s. The shaker is done in a classical form, copying the style of English & Portuguese pieces from the first quarter of the 1700s. The body of the shaker has an elegant swirled fluted design, repeated on the lid. The shaker stands on four cabriole style legs ending in pad feet, with bold decorations where the feet join the body. This is a very well made piece, constructed from thick, heavy gauge silver with a nice feeling of weight. The lid is threaded, so it will not come off during use, & the holes pierced in the lid for distributing the contents are very reasonably sized. Elegantly practical construction all around. This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, & no repairs. The underside of the piece is stamped 'sterling' & with the maker's mark for Tane Orfebres, as well as Made in Mexico & the Mexican eagle silver assay mark. The caster stands about 7 7/8 inches tall. The caster weighs 366 grams or 12.9 regular ounces. -jm Superb Mexican Sterling Silver Tane Orfebres Large Shaker/Caster
