Beautiful Annual Plate in bas-relief in its original box A little over 7 inches in Diameter The 1983 plate is titled "Postman" Growing up right next to the Hummel Factory in Germany, I can say first hand that the standards for creating these adorable collectibles were very high. Cheerful & playful childhood memories are captured in hundreds of charming variations of the popular & world famous "M.I.Hummel" figurine series. Each year selected motifs from this beloved collection are transferred to handcrafted, hand-painted porcelain plates by the talented artists from the house of Goebel. The plates are produced for a 12 month period only. History The sketch art of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel began to appear in the 1930s in Germany & Switzerland, mostly pastoral drawings of children. The German art publisher Ars Sacra was involved in the early popularization of the art on postcards. Hummel's "art cards" became popular throughout Germany, catching the eye of Franz Goebel, porcelain maker & head of W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik. Goebel acquired rights to turn Hummel's drawing into figurines, producing the first line in 1935 1983 Annual M.j.
