The Virgin by Joseph Stella Virgin Mary Christian Religion Wood Framed Canvas Joseph Stella was an American painter, born in Italy in 1877. He immigrated to the United States at a young age and, supported by his brothers, took up painting. He had a long, successful career in art & passed away in 1946. We wanted to offer this painting to you the minute we saw it but had to wait some years until it went out of copyright. He has two other paintings of Mary that we are very fond of. As of this writing, we offer one other in our shop Search for "Mother Most Pure." This painting is housed at the Brooklyn Museum. 1926.
