Icon with water-gilding on natural linden wood. The wood has been prepared in heat & gilded with gold leaf 24K, in accordance with traditional Byzantine techniques. The icon has been painted with egg-tempera paints for best performance & endurance of colors used. The colors were chosen based on studies & analyses of older icons by renowned iconographers from Mountain Athos.The gilded surface of the icon has been further decorated with hand-engravings (tsoukaniko). About this Icon: According to Saint Nikodimos the Saint (1749-1809), Veronica was from the ruins of Caesarea of Philip, also known as Paneada, which is located in the Golan Heights today. She made the Lord's statue so that the devoted may respect & adore Him after He delivered her from a terrible hemorrhage. An plant that treated a number of diseases sprouted at its base. The Gospels of Matthew (vv. 20-22), Mark (vv. 25-34), & Luke all explain how Christ healed the bleeding Veronica (v. 43-49).
