Large antique Japanese bronze figure, Benzaiten, Goddess of Music, Beauty, Water, finely detailed, beautiful patina, playing a biwa, one of the Seven Lucky Gods #1775 A large antique Japanese bronze figure of Benzaiten, the Goddess of Music, the Arts, Beauty, Good Fortune, Wisdom, Love, & All That Flows, including Water, Air, & Love; basically, All That is Good. Benzaiten is one of Japan's most beloved deities, both a Buddhist & Shinto goddess, & one of the Seven Lucky Gods, the Shichi Fukujin. The Heavenly Goddess sits in meditation, framed by a celestial sash, playing her biwa. Her flowing robes are finely detailed, & she wears a celestial crown of rolling waves, with a small torii shrine at the top. The back of the figure is also very detailed & beautiful. The bronze figure is expertly cast with a beautiful deep patina, & in excellent condition, with no missing pieces or damage; with only wear as expected for its age.
