From the mid to late 1980s, & very hard to find. Made by San Antonio's John Brickels concurrently with his 3D magnum opus stoneware clay sculpture of the historic landmark architecture (which were heavily awarded & praised for his acumen & mastery of his niche). White clay mounted on black glazed red clay. Measures roughly 8" x 8" x .5" thick. Perfect condition. Sold as pictured. Nautical themes close by in the Great Lakes also grabbed his attention. John has exhibited & lectured across the United States. The City of San Antonio commissioned John to create sculptures of the Spanish Missions which were presented to visiting dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth, President George H. W. Bush, & Pope John Paul II. His work has been exhibited by the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C., the Shelburne Museum, Shelburne Vermont & the Springfield Museums Group, Springfield Massachusetts.
