up for consideration is fine large coastal Water Color Marine painting by mid level English Artist William Stewart (1823-1906). The painting from the front measures about 17 X 27 inches with the overall frame being about 26 inches by 36 inches...please understand that the piece is matted so the painting is actually larger & is hidden under the matting. It is signed W. Steward in the lower right. It is also tagged "W. Stewart" on the front under the glass. The reason the artwork is in excellent condition is because it is cased in glass. Buyer pays shipping. William Stewart was a British / Scottish artist (1823-1906) from Paisley, Scotland where he taught at the Paisley School of Design. Stewart exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts & the Royal Scottish Academy. He painted in both watercolors & oils, depicting coastal & other nautical scenes. This special original piece features the iconic famous Schiavoni  "SÂ" sail on the typical venetian vessel. The Schiavoni trading company established in Venice in 1451 dominated trade between Dalmatia & Venice for 100s of years. William Stewart was a Scottish artist from Paisley, Scotland where he taught at the Paisley School of Design. Stewart exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts & the Royal Scottish Academy. His work was also included at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham & the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He painted in both watercolors & oils, depicting coastal & other nautical scenes in a very characteristic style as well as being famous for his portraits of common people in every day life. Strong demand for Stewart works include the sale price of $9,704 for Lot # 119 Â"The Dolls ToiletÂ" at WhyteÂ's Auction, Dublin, Ireland on February 25th, 2008. The Finearte Semenzato Auction House in Venice estimated a similar watercolor Stewart painting titled "VeneziaÂ" at $3,150 - $3,958. Circa 1890s.
