Saint Anna or Agia Anna ( Αγία Άννα ) hand painted Greek Orthodox Church icon,entirely hand made on wood panel with crocus, set in a gold leaf gilded background. It is in accord with the style the tradition & the criteria of the Macedonian school of Agio Oros ( Mount Athos ). On December 9, the Greek Orthodox Church commemorates Righteous Agia Anna's Conception of Panagia, the Most Holy Theotokos. Anna married Joachim in Nazareth, & in old age gave birth to Mary, the Most-holy Theotokos. Joachim & Anna had lived together in marriage for fifty years & yet had remained barren. Once when in their old age they came to Jerusalem to offer a sacrifice to God. The high priest Issachar reprimanded Joachim, saying: "You are not worthy that a gift is accepted from your hands, for you are childless." Others, who had children, pushed Joachim behind them as one unworthy. Then the two of them fell down before God in prayer, that He worked a miracle with them as He once had with Abraham & Sarah, & give them a child as a comfort in their old age. Through the fervent prayer of both spouses, an angel of the Lord announced to them that they would be the parents of a daughter, Who would bring blessings to the whole human race. The Conception of the Virgin Mary by Saint Anna took place in Jerusalem. Agia Anna is known for helping couples who are trying to conceive & many pray to Agia Anna to help them fall pregnant.
