A beautiful 19 3/4" long modernist bentwood tray designed by Shigemichi Aomine for NCC (National Craft Council) in Japan in the 1960s. We have had several of these large leaf-shaped thin veneered trays, but this one has been dipped in matte black paint or lacquer, with part of the tray keeping the natural wood color (perhaps from the use of wax resist or stencil). The reverse is completely matte black. Unmarked, do not see the NCC triangles mark - but could be that it was covered up. in good vintage condition, with no major damage - but there are some nicks & chips out of the wood on edge. One of the top points of the wood has the start of a flake chip to the veneer (very common on these NCC pieces). See all the photos. Some other light wear, scuffs to the matte black surface. Measures about 19 3/4" long, 11 3/4" wide. Will require a very large flat box - if cheaper we will try FedEx & refund the shipping difference. - We may ship by USPS or Fed Ex when available.
